Office of the Vice President Leads Successful Tree Planting Initiative in Tawi-Tawi

Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi—On February 27, 2025, a collaborative tree-planting activity was successfully conducted in Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi. The Office of the Vice President spearheaded the activity in partnership with local environmental agencies and community organizations.

Ms. Ashmara Mangondato, representing the Office of the Vice President, joined forces with MENRE Tawi-Tawi and CENRE Officer District II Forester Abdulmukim J. Maruji to lead this significant environmental initiative. The event encompassed two distinct planting activities: mangrove planting in Barangay Kulape and upland tree planting featuring indigenous species in Barangay Magsaggaw.

The initiative saw widespread participation from various sectors, including local government units, military units, private corporations, and educational institutions. Notable participants included Kaltimex Rural Energy Corporation, represented by Ms. Sitti Rehina G. Maring and Mr. Alwakin, the Tawi-Tawi Bikers Club, Tawsi Rangers, and students from Asaron and Magsaggaw Elementary Schools.

The tree-planting activity achieved its ambitious target, successfully planting 10,000 seedlings comprising 3,000 Rhizophora propagules and 300 Indigenous trees. This effort significantly contributes to local reforestation and coastal protection efforts in Tawi-Tawi.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement in the region. It serves as a model for future collaborative efforts to promote sustainable practices and preserve Tawi-Tawi’s rich biodiversity.
